A note from Alain

ARCHIBALD 01 holds a special place in my heart. First imagined in the 2000s during the initial iteration of GOSSUIN, ARCHIBALD was never released until now. Designed like a sweatshirt or polo, I love wearing it directly on the skin, but it looks equally great over a shirt or t-shirt. The wide neckline follows the collarbone and nicely highlights the  face. This is my go-to piece for cool evenings in spring and summer. Enjoy!

To give your jumper a good and long life please follow these simple guidelines:
  • No need to dry clean. Prefer hand wash or low temperature machine washing.
  • Machine wash up to 30 degrees using a delicate or wool adapted detergent. Do not bleach, soak or rub. Wash similar colors together. Low machine spinning or roll in a towel (for ultimate durability).
  • Dry flat, including body, collar and sleeves. Unfold the collar. Dot not tumble dry ever !
  • No ironing needed. If you really want to, set the iron on the Wool, Medium or 2-dot heat setting. Use little to no steam. Do not press to avoid the jumper becoming shiny.

Introducing ARCHIBALD 01

Follow the ARCHIBALD dream

The ultimate light cotton jumper

ARCHIBALD is not your ordinary light cotton sweater.

ARCHIBALD 01 is the, perfect Spring and Autumn essential: breezy, relaxed yet elegant. The ultimate transitional layer for changing seasons and cooler summer evenings.

Easy to wear, pair and care for, ARCHIBALD combines the easiness of cotton with a hint of cashmere for an unparalleled soft and luxurious touch on the skin.

A soft luxurious touch

A lasting jumper starts with quality materials. We chose a superior cotton yarn grown and spun in Egypt (85%), mixed with a hint of cashmere (15%) from Inner Mongolia. It is OEKO-TEX certified, among other things.

The resulting knit is much softer than pure cotton sweaters, without the usual warmth of cashmere sweaters. It is literally the best of both worlds and a dream on the skin.

The yarn is spun in Alexandria (Egypt) and dyed in Bergano (Italy) by Filmar, both processes taking place in their own workshops.

Aye Aye captain

ARCHIBALD features a wide neckline reminiscent of those often seen on the knits of navy officers and crew. This neckline provides an elegant and relaxed look, enhancing comfort by sitting lower than traditional necklines.

Additionally, a ribbon band runs from shoulder to shoulder, offering a sophisticated take on the classic shoulder inserts typically associated with this style.

A breezy transitional layer

Instead of the traditional dense and tight cotton knit usually associated with this style, we have revived the much-too-rare seed stitch knit. This unique pattern creates a solid, comfy, yet breathable layer.

Perpendicular hems

As with any luxury piece, the devil is in the details. The sleeves and bottom hem are knitted perpendicularly to the main body and hand-linked one by one to the body of the jumper.

Cotton pieces usually stretch more than wool sweaters due to body warmth, and this technique helps maintain the shape of these key parts of the garment.

Scalloped wrist

The wrist is scalloped just where the thumb sits to make sure the wrist position itself at the right place.

It is our signature and will look just right with a GOSSUIN shirt.

Square armscye Engineered for Movement

The armscye forms a square rather than the classic ellipsis. This way of binding the sleeves to the body is often seen in sports and military sweaters, allowing a higher freedom of movement.

Totally easy care

The yarn is machine washable and easy care, period.

Flat knitted in Lithuania

The jumper is knitted and finished in Kaunas (Lithuania) on flat knitting machines. It is fully fashioned, meaning it is knitted in shape rather than as a roll.

Pieces are then bound together via re-meshing / hand-linking (when needed) rather than sewn together. The use of this technique prevents material waste.

Our jumper is 100% made in Europe from yarn to finish.

Traceability

We fight for people to own less but better garments.

To guide you on that path, we promise to clearly tell you what we know and what we don't at every step of garment making process.

A true piece of history

From the early days of the unreleased ARCHIBALD prototype—an idea sparked during the first iteration of GOSSUIN between 2004 and 2011—to the meticulous development of ARCHIBALD 01, our journey has been one of unwavering dedication. Over three years and through the hands of four different workshops, we painstakingly refined every detail, from knit density and cut to robustness and yarn selection, leading us to what we are proudly calling ARCHIBALD 01.

Navy legacy

ARCHIBALD 01 draws its inspiration from the timeless elegance of crew neck and navy attire, a nod to the storied heritage of maritime fashion. Named after Captain Haddock, this jumper embodies a blend of tradition, modernity, and character, crafted to perfection for the discerning wearer.

Perfect for Transitional Seasons

ARCHIBALD 01 is designed for the slightly warmer weather of spring to autumn. It features an elegant and original collar shape that sets it apart. The result is a jumper that is not too warm, incredibly soft, and easy to wear, providing comfort and style in equal measure.

Timeless hues

We have selected timeless colors for ARCHIBALD 01: khaki, charcoal grey, and navy blue. These shades are chosen for their versatility and enduring appeal, ensuring that your jumper remains a staple in your wardrobe for years to come.

Wear with pride. Wear with confidence. Wear without moderation.

It took many people to bring ARCHIBALD 01 to the world. This section is dedicated to them.
